Er verschijnt een grijns onder m ' n stoel.
Een geschubde staart glijdt uit het zicht
Nu is het weg — was het er ooit?
Er is iets vreemds in huis.
Reptielensporen leiden onder ons bed.
En alle katten zijn lekker, dik en bang.
Al betwijfel ik of we er al een verloren hebben.
Wat is het probleem? Doet niet iedereen
Heb je ergens een alligator?
En misschien is deze er altijd al geweest.
Maar het viel me nooit op tot nu.
Er is een alligator in huis.
Ze lag te slapen in de woonkamer.
Ze lag te slapen op de fluwelen bank.
En de katten sliepen daar ook.
