How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
«Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
«When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of woe shall not thee overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
«When through fiery trials thy pathways shall lie,

In every condition, in sickness, in health;

Hoe stevig een fundament, gij heiligen van de Heer,
Is gelegd voor uw geloof in zijn uitstekende woord!
Wat kan hij meer zeggen dan hij tegen jou heeft gezegd?,
Naar jou, die als toevluchtsoord naar Jezus zijn gevlucht?
"Vrees niet, Ik ben met u, o niet ontzet,
Want ik ben uw God en zal u nog steeds helpen;
Ik zal je versterken en helpen en je laten staan.
Gesteund door mijn rechtvaardige, Almachtige hand.
"Als ik door de diepe wateren roep ik u om te gaan,
De rivieren van ellende zullen u niet overstromen.;
Want Ik zal bij u zijn, uw zorgen te zegenen,
En reinig uw diepste verdriet.
"Als door vurige beproevingen uw wegen zullen liggen,
Mijn genade, allen voldoende, zal uw voorraad zijn.;
De vlam zal u geen kwaad doen; Ik ontwerp alleen
Uw onzuiverheden om te consumeren, en uw goud om te verfijnen.
"De ziel die op Jezus nog leunt voor rust,
Ik zal niet, Ik zal niet deserteren naar zijn vijanden.;
Die ziel, hoewel de hel zou moeten proberen te schudden,
Ik zal nooit, nooit, nooit, nooit in de steek laten.»
"Zelfs tot aan de ouderdom zal al mijn volk bewijzen
Mijn soevereine, eeuwige, onveranderlijke liefde;
En wanneer haardharen versierd worden.,
Als lammeren zullen ze nog steeds in mijn boezem gedragen worden.»
