Er ligt sneeuw op de grond.
En geen kamers in de stad
Nergens voor spendin ' the night
Behalve de oude schuur.
Met hooi als bed
En Mary zegt dat het goed is.
Joseph vindt het niks.
Zijn Mary is zwanger.
Wat als dit de avond is dat ze bevalt?
Maar als hij niets heeft
Een man komt om te zien
Hoeveel een beetje waard is
De reis is moeilijk geweest.
Ze staken de binnenplaats over.
Naar een schuur aan de achterkant van de herberg
Ze gaan slapen.
Bij runderen en schapen
En wachten tot deze nacht begint
Nu ziet ze dat hij zich zorgen maakt.
Met liefde in haar ogen
Ze reikt uit en raakt zijn gezicht aan.
Ze zegt dat een schuur een herenhuis is.
Als de muren de liefde beschermen
Om een of andere reden heeft God deze plek gekozen.
De komst van de baby
Vult de nacht
En het licht van een prachtige ster
Licht de duisternis op
Zo glorieus helder
En schijnt neer op de wereld nabij en ver
En direct daaronder.
Alsof aan een string
Deze beschutting van zo ' n nederig ontwerp
Warmte en bescherming geven
Aan het kind Jezus Christus
Onze Heer en Verlosser, koning van de mensheid
