I forced a stop and heard this mystic melody.
On an island in the ocean, not a human soul around, as I searched for bread and
water, once again I heard this sound.
My plane had all its motors gone. The wings would never keep me up.
I heard a voice that seemed to say, «Now, let’s take it from the top.
I was tramping through the Congo when the Mau Mau tribe appeared
And their native chant was haunting, just the sound that I had feared.
While rocketing into space, I found myself upon the moon. An ectoplasm greeting
me with, «Have you heard the latest tune?»
My ship was sinking in the water, so I sent an S.O.S. and I waited for an answer, you don’t even have to guess.
Came a voice so calm and cheerful, just as cheerful as can be, said, «According to our survey, now the song is number three!»

Op de Matterhorn klimmen, helemaal alleen als ik kon, bereikte ik de top,
Ik forceerde een stop en hoorde een mystieke melodie.
Op een eiland in de oceaan, geen menselijke ziel in de buurt, terwijl ik op zoek was naar brood en
water, opnieuw hoorde ik dit geluid.
Mijn vliegtuig had al zijn motoren weg. De vleugels zouden me nooit wakker houden.
Ik hoorde een stem die leek te zeggen: "Laten we het vanaf het begin doen.
Ik liep door Congo toen de Mau Mau stam verscheen.
En hun inheemse gezang spookte rond, precies het geluid waar ik bang voor was.
Terwijl ik de ruimte in rockste, vond ik mezelf op de maan. Een ectoplasm begroeting
ik met, " Heb je het laatste deuntje gehoord?»
Mijn schip zonk in het water, dus stuurde ik een S. O. S. en ik wachtte op een antwoord, Je hoeft het niet eens te raden.
Er kwam een stem zo kalm en vrolijk, net zo vrolijk als maar kan, zei, " volgens ons onderzoek, nu is het nummer drie!»
