This drinker needed company

Then we sat in silence and we drank
I can’t recall the taxi home
Whether I was awake or alone

Then I heard is voice pouring down the hall
And out into the streets and he was gone
And I was back where I started from
I got on my hands and on my knees
And I asked the floor for release
I was so heavy it felt like I was being squeezed
Through the cracks in the wood into the black underneath
So I closed my eyes and I was in the skies

The taste of the air took me by surprise
It was like alcohol and cotton
For awhile I just flew around
And that whole ugly city was on the ground

Ik ontmoette de drinker voor een drankje.
Toen ik nog alles dronk behalve de gootsteen.
Ik moest hem ontmoeten in de bar in de Blackstone.
Ik weet niet waarom hij die plek koos.
Het lijkt vreemd dat andere drinkers naar je gezicht kijken.
Zoals je weet drinken sommige drinkers alleen.
Ze willen niemand anders in de buurt.
Maar als een trellis heeft wat klimop nodig
Alsof een schijnwerper een lichaam nodig heeft
Deze drinker had gezelschap nodig.
Hij had me nodig We zaten samen en we dronken
Hij zei: "de nacht is altijd jonger dan je denkt»
Hij had niet veel aan zijn hoofd.
Hij zei: "Het is leuk om iemand in de buurt te hebben als je je ontspant»
Nou, ik zei "altijd" en hij zei "Bedankt»
Toen zaten we in stilte en dronken we
Ik kan me de taxi naar huis niet herinneren.
Of ik wakker was of alleen
Ik voelde het bed mijn val inslikken.
Toen hoorde ik een stem die door de gang stroomde.
En op straat was hij weg.
En ik was terug waar ik begon
Ik heb op mijn handen en op mijn knieën
En ik vroeg het woord voor vrijlating
Ik was zo zwaar dat het voelde alsof ik werd uitgeknepen.
Door de scheuren in het hout in het zwart eronder
Dus ik sloot mijn ogen en ik was in de lucht
Ik deed mijn ogen dicht en ik vloog.
De smaak van de lucht verraste me.
Het was net alcohol en katoen.
Ik heb een tijdje rondgevlogen.
En die hele lelijke stad lag op de grond.
Het zag er mooi uit op de grond.
