He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought —
He rested 'neath the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And while in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes aflame
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

Hij nam zijn vorpal zwaard in de hand.:
Lange tijd de manxome vijand die hij zocht —
Hij rustte bij de Tumtumboom.,
En stond een tijdje in gedachten.
En terwijl hij in uffish dacht dat hij stond,
De Jabberwock, met brandende ogen
Kwam fluiten door het tulgey bos,
En burnde als het kwam!
Een, twee! Een, twee! En door en door
De Vorpal blade werd snicker-snack!
Hij liet het dood achter, en met zijn hoofd
Hij ging helemaal terug.
"En hebt gij de Jabberwock gedood?
Kom in mijn armen, Mijn beamish jongen!
O frabjous dag! Callooh! Callay!»
