De duivel zit op het kerkhof namen te lezen.
Van al degenen die hij struikelde onderweg.
Hij gaat zitten in het maanlicht, veegt zijn tranen
Starend naar de witte roos die hij plaatste
Voor het graf bezoekt hij elke dag sinds ze wegglipte.
De duivel verbergt zijn blauwe ogen in zijn hand
Hij veegt de laatste tranen weg zoals hij staat.
Hij hoort haar stem zo duidelijk op de wind
Ze zingt als een engel op zijn zwakste knieën.
Dus hij draait de pet af en geeft zijn hoofd terug voor die zoete opluchting.
De duivel loopt langzaam op straat
Naar zijn lege flat waar hij zal kruipen.
De stilte van zijn slaapkamer voordat hij uitglijdt
In elke nachtmerrie als hij slaapt
Hij ziet haar stralende glimlach aan de hemelse poorten terwijl hij zich afwendt.
